Transition Town Louth

Louth Town Centre Partnership

Update 14th March 2010 by Biff vernon

After the appointment of Mark Barnes as Town Centre Manager last autumn and the formation of an Interim Louth Town Centre Partnership Board things have been moving on. The Food Group has been having regular meetings with a view to putting Louth on the map as a place for the best in food. The first big event to be organised is a Fair in September. It will probably kick off on Thursday 3rd and run through the weekend with lots of vaguely food-related events including a big market in the town centre, music- making and celebration. Then there is to be a Victorian Market on Sunday 31st October. Dig out those Victorian costumes. Of course TTL can have stalls or whatever at these events. Time to start planning.

Tranition Town Louth is well represented in the Partnership; I'm on the the Interim Boardrepresenting TTL and have the Environment and Transport briefs. Roxy and James are on the Food group and so am I. A new group looking at the long term strategy and visioning for Louth for years ahead is about to formed under the chairship of Canon Stephen Holdaway. This looks like a great opportunity to get the Transition ideas of a Time Line and Energy Decent Path sorted and out where they can take root.

As TTL representative it's pretty important that people contribute their ideas. Please do get in touch.

And there are plenty of opportunities to join the various sub-groups that the Town Centre Partnership is putting together if you want to participate directly.

Mark now has an office at Unit 6 Meridian House, 41 Eastgate of phone him on 07917 628149 or e-mail mark.barnes@e-lindsey.gov.uk

Louth Partnership Board agrees its priorities for the next year

THE INTERIM Louth Town Centre Partnership Board held its first meeting on Thursday January 14, 2010, when members of the newly formed Board selected priorities for the next 12 months.

The Partnership Board covers 16 areas and volunteer Board Members have chosen their specialist field to represent. The aspects of the Community being represented are Faith, Tourism, Crime, Environment and Transport, Education, Town Centre businesses, Commercial, Market, Health, Young people, Public sector, Community groups, Food, Sport and leisure, Art & Music, Heritage and Senior Citizens.

Canon Stephen Holdaway, Chairperson of the Partnership, said: “I am very impressed by the positive energy around the table and now the work starts on channelling this for the good of the town.”

Town Centre Manager, Mark Barnes, added: “This is a very exciting time for Louth. All of my words, late last year, must now be turned into actions to deliver a Louth that is more vibrant, prosperous and working in a way that is guided and assisted by its businesses and residents.”

Mark has asked for people to consider the priorities for this year based on the Town Plan, feedback from last year’s open meetings, media releases and also from a collation of letters and emails that Mark received into his office.

This has resulted in the following 10 issues for the Partnership to consider:

  1. Promote Louth as Food Town.
  2. Car parking and traffic flow.
  3. Market issues.
  4. Town signage.
  5. Youth issues.
  6. High Street businesses.
  7. Floral enhancement.
  8. Transport.
  9. Anti-social behaviour.
  10. General promotion of the town.

Mark, continued: “There are many other issues for consideration but it is essential that the process is as democratic as it can be and this list helps us to understand the major concerns of the people of the town.”

It is not too late if you wish to get involved and help shape Louth’s future. The Interim Town Centre Partnership Board is looking for volunteers to advise Board members on any of the above categories.

Mark, explained: “Behind every Board Member lies an advisory group and we are looking for more people to offer this support by joining a group” If you feel that you can help advise the Board or have any comments or thoughts then please contact Mark Barnes on 07917 628149 or by email on mark.barnes@e- lindsey.gov.uk
